What are veneers, and who are they best suited for?
We have a lot of people who come into our office and are thinking to themselves, "Are veneers right for me? Do I need some porcelain veneers on my teeth?" To answer that question, I would say, if you have teeth that are maybe a little misshapen, a little chipped, or maybe you've had a few fillings on your teeth that you don't like the look of anymore, or if there are spaces between your teeth, or they are not the right shade, all of these problems can be fixed by porcelain veneers. It's a couple of step process where we prepare the teeth for the veneers, then have the veneers made in the lab, and finally, cement them onto your teeth. Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to achieve the aesthetic goals you have for your teeth.
What options do I have for teeth whitening?
People often come into our office and ask, "What options do I have for teeth whitening?" There are basically two main options. One option is doing in-office teeth whitening. When you do that, it will take a couple of hours at the dental office where you're going to sit in the chair and have some teeth whitening gel on your teeth for a good amount of time. The nice thing about that is that it's done very quickly. The other method is at-home whitening. When people choose to do the at-home whitening, we'll make a custom-made tray that goes onto your teeth. Every day, you'll put a little gel in that tray and wear it for about 30 minutes. After about two weeks, you'll see some pretty good results, very similar to the in-office whitening. The in-office whitening gets you there a little quicker, but the at-home whitening may result in less sensitivity. Both options get you a good result. Come on in, and we'd love to talk to you about different ways that we can whiten your teeth.

What is the difference between veneers and crowns?
Oftentimes, when discussing a smile makeover, people ask, "What is the difference between a dental crown and a dental veneer?" Aesthetically, there's not much difference; both can be made to look beautiful. The difference is in coverage: a crown covers the entire tooth, while a veneer covers only the front. For a very damaged tooth, like one that's broken or had a root canal, we might choose a crown. For an untouched tooth where we want to change the shape or color, we might choose a veneer. If you're considering crowns versus veneers, come to Matheson Dentistry & Implant Center for a free consultation, and we'll discuss the best options for you.

Some of the popular cosmetic dental solutions that we offer are dental implants, bridges, crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays, teeth whitening, bonding, gum contouring, oral prophylaxis, etc.

Popular cosmetic treatment options
Dental implants
Implants are regarded as the best way to replace missing teeth. They consist of a visible crown, that replaces the tooth and a titanium stud, that replaces the tooth root. Together, they restore both the functionality and aesthetics of the teeth just like they were before.
Dentures
Dentures are widely used to replace several missing teeth. Multiple teeth may have to be extracted due to issues such as cavities, oral infections, gum diseases, external trauma to the mouth, aging, etc. Dentures offer the perfect solution to these issues as they can be used to restore the biting and chewing ability as well.
Crowns and bridges
Crowns are ceramic appliances that cover the entire surface of damaged or worn out teeth. They bring about an aesthetic change as well as restore the strength of the tooth. Bridges are the simplest way to replace an extracted tooth. They consist of a ceramic tooth and crowns on either side which holds the prosthetic in place. Their appearance can be perfectly matched with that of the remaining teeth.
Veneers
Veneers are thin ceramic restorations that resemble the frontal face of the teeth. They can be bonded to the face of the teeth that need an aesthetic makeover, such as chipping, cracks, discoloration, etc. They can be customized to perfectly match the tooth’s appearance.
Teeth whitening
Teeth staining occurs when the patient consumes a lot of colored foods, doesn’t brush the teeth regularly or due to oral infections. It ruins the appearance of the smile and can lead to a lot of embarrassment. We can improve the color of the teeth using teeth whitening solutions and give them a brighter smile.
Tooth-colored fillings
Fillings are commonly used to fill cavities that are formed due to bacterial decay. Fillings used to be made from metals or amalgam, which left a displeasing appearance on the smile. But, now we only use tooth-colored fillings that are aesthetically amazing and offer excellent sealing. They can be shaped according to the contour required and the color can be matched perfectly with that of the natural enamel.
Inlays and onlays
Inlays are an alternative to fillings. They are custom-fabricated to perfectly fit into a large cavity and are fixed in position using dental adhesives. Onlays are used to restore the cusp or biting surface of a worn-out tooth. Both inlays and onlays restore the strength of a tooth and keep it from falling.
Gum contouring
The gums may decay or recede when the patient develops gum diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis. The symptoms include bleeding and release of pus from the gums, deep gum pockets, tenderness and pain, etc. Gum contouring surgery involves the removal of the infected tissues and replacing them with healthy ones extracted from a different part of the mouth, preferably the palate.
